Duncan Gemmel

Chaucer appointed Duncan as Chief Strategy Officer in June 2020, having previously served as Head of Strategy and Corporate development. 

Duncan is responsible for shaping the overall strategy and long-term direction of the Group, including corporate development and overseeing the development of Chaucer's innovation and next generation underwriting capabilities. He joined Chaucer in 2008, initially as Head of Underwriting Management, before building their Underwriting Performance function.

He was previously an Underwriter in both the Lloyd’s and company markets for 12 years, before becoming a partner in an advisory and analytics business as well as being involved in start-up businesses outside the insurance market. Duncan holds an MBA and is ACII qualified.
